To summarize, I have decided on six final images
for my work, all I need to do now - after being in the print room all week
playing around with combinations, is print them. I hope to do this Monday, and
also use the letterpress for quotes between the pages of images, and voila, I
should be finished!
I've had a lot of help and guidance through out the
project from lecturers who have encouraged me to enjoy working the print room,
most of them saying that I belong in the print room, this has pleased me as I
really do love print making.
I have enjoyed researching Virginia Woolf, I feel
as if I have an age old friend in her, she led such a sad life, and I have
tried to include this in my work as well as aspects like 'Her husband owned a
monkey named Mitz' – looking at small monkeys was brilliant. I would be lying
if I said I have found this project easy, it has been tough! I have had a lot
of time where I have questioned my drawing and compositional skills (print
room) and from deciding what fact to use, to struggling to cut paper properly,
I have enjoyed and loathed the last project at university ever.
It makes me sad knowing that my time at university
has come to end, I feel like I have established a safe habitat that works quite
well for me as an artist. Being in the studio with peer support helps and
hinders at times, so it will be extremely strange when I can no longer pop in
and out. I think the thing I will struggle the most without is of course the
print room, I don’t have the money or space for a huge industrial sized screen
printing machine – I guess in terms of lino and dry point I’ll have to try
putting the image under the wheel of my car! Alas, I will no longer have the
staff support either, this is sad as I feel I have gained a lot of knowledge
from them, as well as friendship (to a varying degree anyway, I’m sure you all
hate me!) it will be strange and weird not having a brief to work to or a guest
lecture to attend.
Oh well, hopefully in a year’s time I’ll be in a
job I love. Or I’ll be working at Tesco full time, talking about the good old
days at university.
